๐Happy ๐St. Patrick's Day! I will obviously be diving into the name in which the good time ๐ป yet holy ✝ holiday is named after: ๐๐Patrick
๐Saint ๐Patrick's real name is thought to be: ๐Maewyn Succat. "๐St. Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the patron saint of Ireland and its national apostle. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at age 16. He later escaped but returned to Ireland and is credited with spreading Christianity among its people," History.com explains. The name ๐Patrick was "derived from his time in Ireland."
๐Patrick is called ๐Pรกdraig in Irish and is from the Latin name ๐Patricius, meaning "nobleman." Behind the Name says, "In England and elsewhere in Europe during the Middle Ages ๐Patrick was used in honour of the saint. However, it was not generally given in Ireland before the 17th century because it was considered too sacred for everyday use. It has since become very common there."
It certainly has: ๐Patrick ranks at #16 in Ireland
for most popular boy's names in 2024. In the United States (๐California & ๐Minnesota is where the most ๐Patricks can most be found), ๐Patrick is at #221 in popularity. ๐Nameberry๐ asks, "Why has ๐Patrick slipped from its high of Number 30 in the 1960s?" And answers, "Partly to blame might be its androgynous nicknames, Pat and Patsy. But with more and more parents calling their sons by their full names, this becomes less of an issue."
๐NB๐ believes naming a boy ๐Patrick after St. ๐Patrick, "would give a son with this name a widely -- and raucously -- celebrated holiday," as it is "long tied to a hyper-Irish
image." ๐NB๐ also feels that that the name ๐Patrick "is enjoying something of a renaissance as a stylish classic, as it has long been considered in England. ๐Patrick has escaped overuse in recent decades."
I have no problem with the name ๐๐Patrick — I like it. ๐๐พ I agree with ๐Nameberry๐ that it's a classic name. I don't agree with calling it "stylish" ๐คท๐พ♀️ but it certainly is an old-fashioned name — serious in one sense — yet a fun name all around because of all the inspiring
Irish history of ๐St. Patrick's Day behind it.

♀️Female Version of ๐๐PATRICK:
๐Patricia
๐ญI like the female version of ๐Patrick just fine. I do like it more when another name is attached e.g. Patricia Ann. It gives it an even more feminine flair.
