📛Carolyn 🥊vs. 📛Caroline

Co-worker 1: "I'm calling Page Six and demanding a retraction. I mean how hard is it to spell Carolyn?"
Co-worker 2: "You in Page Six again?"
Carolyn: "Oh no Carol Bessette was in Page Six again. Apparently she was seen canoodling with John at..."
Co-worker: "Last time they called you Caroline. It's shoddy journalism."
Carolyn: "I rather they misspell my name the less interested in us they are the better."

The above ⬆ dialogue is from the captivating 📺t.v. show 💞Love 📖Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette — that dramatizes the real life JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's love story — and tragic ending (RIP).

When Carolyn Bessette (played by Sarah Pidgeon) marries JFK Jr. (played by Paul Anthony Kelly) she becomes sister-in-law to Caroline Kennedy (played by Grace Gummer). The two have tension initially.

What I found fascinating 💭 is they have pretty much the same name. 🤯
But apparently, Carolyn and Caroline are the same name. "Caroline is Carolyn," states, Abby Sandel creator of name website Appellation Mountain.

📛Carolyn and 📛Caroline both mean "free man" and are the feminine versions of the name 📛Charles (that stems from 📛Carolus, the Latin form).

📛Nameberry🍒 says"The phonetic Carolyn spelling, which was very popular from the 1920s to the '60s, has been steadily on the wane while Caroline herself has stayed strong. Carolina is the more feminine (and place name) version, as opposed to the newer form Carolyn, which forces the pronunciation of the final syllable to rhyme with win and spin. Though Caroline can be pronounced that way, it's more usually pronounced to rhyme with wine and fineCaroline is a perennial classic, one of the elite group of girls' names that's ALWAYS ranked among the Top 1000 and that's been in the Top 100 since 1994. Elegant yet strong, Caroline calls to mind the Kennedy Camelot years."
📛NB🍒: in 2024 Caroline was at #92 📈 as the most popular baby girl name  whereas Carolyn was #953 📉 in 2020.

📍South Carolina fittingly is where the most Carolines live."127.9 in every 100,000 South Carolinians have this name." 📍California surprisingly is the next state where one will find a Caroline: "20,008 people have this name," according to My Name Stats.

📍Texas and 📍Arkansas are where the most Carolyns reside.

I'm more partial to the name 📛Carolyn because my favorite aunt (RIP) was named it (although she went by 📛Carol). I always equate 📛Caroline with South/North Carolina (my aunt was from the latter) which is how I find it easiest to remember the pronunciation is: 🔊'line.' I see both names as two distinct names... 🤷🏾‍♀️ and I like them both. 📛Carolyn sounds old fashioned yet girlish 🎀 (thanks to the 🔊'lyn' at the end)  — with a sweet 🥰 feel to it — whereas 📛Caroline is a bit more stern and snobby 👃🆙 sounding but has a classy touch to it. 👌🏾

TV CHARACTER NAME OF INTEREST: Christmas

🤗Merry 🎄Christmas❗

Today I will talk about the very cheerful 😃 name that belonged to the very cute, klutzy and loveable 🥰 "Chrissy" of the sitcom 3️⃣Three's Company. 📺 The full name of Chrissy (played by the late Suzanne Somers RIP) was actually: 📛🎄Christmas Noelle Snow.❄ How incredibly delightful and special is that name?!? 😊 I've been a fan of the show since I was small and just found out years ago that 📛Chrissy = 🎄Christmas. 🤯

🎄Christmas as a first name is "from the name of the holiday, which means ✝ Christ festival."

Nameberry explains 🎄Christmas is a name of English origin  — "a day name long and quietly used as a name for babies born at Christmas. Prettier and more modern than Noel or Noelle."

🎄Christmas is a super rare name with just under 145 babies given the joyful name according to SSA data. 📍California and 📍Hawaii are where 🎄Christmas lovers have named their children the happy, holiday name.

I love the idea of giving 📛🎄Christmas as a name. It's definitely a holiday name that would make one do a 👀double take upon seeing (a la 📛Easter 🐇). 🎄Christmas as a name is celebratory 🙌 with great spiritual significance. 🎄Christmas is first and foremost a girl's 💗 name interestingly. 🤔 But I equally like using 🎄Christmas for a boy 💙 too  with 📛Chris as the perfect nickname. 👌🏾

📌The long-standing (est. 2006) name blog: Nancy's 👶 Baby Names 📛 has an intriguing article asking: 💭How many humans have been named Christmas throughout history?

TV CHARACTER NAME OF INTEREST: Monet

📛Monet is the hip, chic name played by 🎤Mary J. Blige  as a ruthless 👑queen pin  on the 📺 tv show Power Book II: Ghost. 👻

Monet is of French origin according to Nameberry and is a "favorite of the Bohemian set." Behind the Name says Monet is: "from a French surname that was derived from either Hamon or Edmond. This was the surname of the French impressionist painter Claude Monet."

The most Monets live in 📍California and 📍District of Columbia.

Monet reminds me of the name Monroe, being it is a last name that doubles as a first name too and 🔊sounds similar. And just like with Monroe, I like Monet more so for a girl over a boy (it is #1131 on The Bump 👶 Boy 💙 📛Names list 📃) being named. 👌🏾

I really love the name 📛Monet. It's a pretty name but also a bougie name. 👃🏾💁🏾‍♀️ It really does have an 'upper class' 💭 feel to it as pointed out on Behind the Name in the comments. With how fashionable Monet is, I'm very surprised 🤨 it's not on the most Popular Baby Names list via SSA as of recent (although it is in Nameberry's Top 1000 chart 📊).

TV CHARACTER NAME OF INTEREST: Allura

📛Allura is the 👄alluring name, played alluringly by Kim Kardashian on the ⚖ legal 📺tv show All's (get it?) Fair.

Behind the Name says Allura is based on the English word 'allure' which means: something that has appeal (i.e. sex appeal).

Nameberry says Allura is of French origin that means "to entice, attract." The name site's commentary of Allura is: "sounds like a princess or an enticingly evil witch in a fairytale." 👑Allura is in fact a princess, from the 🖋animation Voltron: Legendary Defender. Alluras are mostly found living on Earth, in 📍Oregon or 📍Montana however.

Other forms of Allura include: 📛Alura, 📛Allora, 📛Alora, 📛Alaura and 📛Allaura

At first I thought Allura was a made up name because I never heard of it before. 🤔 I have heard of the word 'Allora '🤌🏾which is a variation of Allura and actually is an 🇮🇹 Italian word (and my favorite word 🤓 in Italian actually).

So in other words, I love the name 📛Allura! 😍 I think it's so pretty, I love its meaning  how it looks and 🔊sounds. I'm surprised Allura isn't currently on any 📈 rising / 🦄 unique 📛 name 📊 charts in popularity but with it being introduced into pop culture with All's Fair perhaps that will change. 🤞🏾

TV CHARACTER NAME OF INTEREST: Pandora

"Have you ever entertained in front of a view like this?"

"Have you?"

"Sometimes I come out here and entertain myself."

"That's very naughty of you Pandora."

"Pandora's my colleague. I stole you from her. My name's Cherry."

⬆ Flirty conversation in the tv miniseries The Girlfriend, between characters 🍒Cherry (played by Olivia Cooke) who poses as her co-worker 🎁Pandora (played by Marina Bye) and a property client. With how provocative 🍒Cherry's character is, her name should be 🎁Pandora instead! 🤦🏾‍♀️

📛🎁Pandora is a very controversial name to name a woman.🎁Pandora means: "all gifts", derived from a combination of Greek πᾶν (pan) meaning "all" and δῶρον (doron) meaning "gift". In Greek mythology Pandora was the first mortal woman. Zeus gave her a jar containing all of the troubles and ills that mankind now knows, and told her not to open it. Unfortunately her curiosity got the best of her and she opened it, unleashing the evil spirits into the world.🎁Pandora's alternate name is: 📛Anesidora meaning, "she who sends up gifts."

Nameberry says on 🎁Pandora being used in modern times for baby girls: "🎁Pandora is riding the wave of mythological names used for babies after centuries of being confined to legend." 34 baby girls were named 🎁Pandora last year.

I'm surprised 😮 there's even women today named 🎁Pandora with the not-so-great mythology behind her name. I genuinely wonder 🤔 how parents made the bold decision to name their daughter after a woman who brought evil into the world, according to Greek mythology... 😖

Now beyond the history of 🎁Pandora's name, it's a really nice name I admit. 🤷🏾‍♀️ 📛🎁Pandora is a name like the Bible's 📛Eve 📛Delilah or 📛Jezebel  pretty but problematic because of the unladylike history behind the names unfortunately.

I personally wouldn't want to have the name 🎁Pandora or would I ever think of naming a daughter it but I can see why some parents would give their daughter such a debatable name – perhaps in hopes their daughter is different, better than the whispers behind the name... I would hope.

TV CHARACTER NAME OF INTEREST: Seema

Carrie's new friend on the spin-off SATC show And Just Like That  — is 📛Seema (played by 📛Sarita Choudhury). When they first meet, she gives Carrie her business card and Carrie reads her name remarking:

"Seema. That's such a pretty name."

"It means boundary in Hindi which is hilarious because I have none," Seema says.

Of course I had to 🔎 google the name Seema to make sure that is the correct meaning and it seems... to be.

Behind the Name defines SeemaFrom Sanskrit सीम (sīma) meaning "boundary, limit"

I really like Hindi names 📄 plus that it's an 'S' name that starts with a 🔉'see' sound  — so I agree with Carrie, 📛Seema is a pretty name. 👌🏾
