NAME OF THE DAY: Fallyn

Happy Fall!๐Ÿ‚ Today is the first day of the autumnal equinox aka Autumn — so I will be discussing a name that can be ๐Ÿ‚Fall inspired: ๐Ÿ“›Fallyn๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ“›Fallyn๐Ÿ "appears to blend elements of traditional  ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชIrish surnames like Fallon (meaning 'leader' or 'superiority') with the popular '-lyn' ending found in names like Brooklyn and Evelyn. This creative combination gives the name both Celtic roots and contemporary style," ๐Ÿ“›Nameberry๐Ÿ’ explains. "Fallyn๐Ÿ"evokes images of autumn through its phonetic similarity to 'falling,' perhaps suggesting the grace of falling ๐Ÿ‚ leaves. The name has gained moderate recognition since the early 2000s, appealing to parents seeking something distinctive yet easy to pronounce. Its relatively rare status makes it stand out while still sounding familiar enough to be accessible. The name carries a sense of natural beauty and gentle strength that resonates with modern naming preferences. Fallyn๐Ÿ is a modern feminine name with an enchanting quality," ๐Ÿ“›NB๐Ÿ’ goes on to say.

Behind The Name states ๐Ÿ“›Fallyn๐Ÿ is a variant of Fallon (from an ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชIrish surname that was an Anglicized form of the Irish Gaelic ร“ Fallamhรกin, itself derived from the given name Fallamhรกn meaning "leader". It was popularized in the 1980s by a character on the soap opera Dynasty.).

๐Ÿ“›Fallyn๐Ÿis pronounced ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ: ๐Ÿ”Šhttps://www.ask-oracle.com/baby-name/fallyn/

However, another pronunciation is๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿพ: ๐Ÿ”Šhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjwThMDpqIA

๐Ÿ“Connecticut and ๐Ÿ“Delaware are the two states where the most ๐Ÿ“›Fallyns๐Ÿreside.๐Ÿก

I really love ๐Ÿ˜the name ๐Ÿ“›Fallyn๐Ÿ almost as much as I love ๐Ÿ“›Autumn. I think it's a really unique, gorgeous name (giving ๐Ÿงšfairy tale ๐Ÿ“– vibes✨) — although it is a bit of a sad ๐Ÿ˜ข name seeing it as the word: 'falling or fallen.' But I even love ๐Ÿฅฐ the nickname: ๐Ÿ“›Fall๐Ÿ‚. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿพ‍♀️ I think at some point in time, this hidden ๐Ÿซฃ gem ๐Ÿ’Ž of a name ๐Ÿ“›Fallyn๐Ÿ will ๐Ÿ“ˆrise on the ๐Ÿ“›name charts ๐Ÿ“Š and be an alternative choice ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿพ to timeless ๐Ÿ“›Autumn.

Baby names influenced by September 11

Today is ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธPatriot Day and the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Nancy's Baby Names (a very underrated name blog, who years ago interviewed me for a ๐Ÿ“›name ๐Ÿ“interview entitled: 'How do you like your name, Sidra?' [unfortunately it has been omitted ๐Ÿ˜• but fortunately I have screenshots ๐Ÿ“ธ of it that I will post one of these days ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ] ) has an ๐Ÿค”intriguing ๐Ÿ“„piece on her website in honor of September 11, 2001 (RIP to the innocent victims whose lives were lost) — where she breaks down the names influenced by the tragedy.

Nancy explains that a "handful of conceptual names" gained ⏩traction and ๐Ÿ“ˆpopularity after 9/11 —  those four names being: ๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿ—ฝLiberty, ๐Ÿ“›⚖️Justice, ๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿฆ…Freedom and ๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿ””Independence.

All About ๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿ—ฝLiberty:

๐Ÿ“–How did the U.S. Bicentennial affect the baby name ๐Ÿ—ฝLiberty?

All About ๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿ””Independence:

                                ๐Ÿ“–Revolutionary War twins named ๐Ÿ””Independence & ๐Ÿ—ฝLiberty

Nancy asks in closing: "Which of these four abstract nouns — Liberty, Justice, Freedom, or Independence — do you like best as a baby name?"

☔IRN๐Ÿ“›'s ๐Ÿ—ฃ️Take: "I never thought about name trends after 9/11 so this is all very new to me. ๐Ÿคซ But I'd already heard of a couple of the names that rose after 9/11 like: Liberty (I recently found out this is a Puritan name ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I like it for a ๐Ÿ’“girl more) and Justice (I went to ๐ŸŽ“college with a stand-up ๐Ÿ‘ male classmate ๐Ÿ˜Žcoolly named this! And Justice has been one of my favorite female names since high ๐Ÿซschool. I also love the ๐ŸŽฅmovie ๐ŸŽตPoetic Justice where the main character has the name. I love it equally for ๐Ÿ’™boys and๐Ÿ’“girls). But I've never heard of Freedom (outside of 'Free' the former ❤BET๐Ÿ“บ 106 & Park host, which was her stage name. Free is nice and strong ๐Ÿ’ช but it can have a ๐Ÿ˜‰risquรฉ connotation too...I like it for ๐Ÿ’™boys more) or Independence (I like the nickname for it more: 'Indie'. I like it more for a ๐Ÿ’“girl) used as first names until now. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ So to answer Nancy's question: ๐Ÿ“›Justice is my favorite abstract noun name, followed by ๐Ÿ“›Liberty, ๐Ÿ“›Independence and lastly ๐Ÿ“›Freedom. They're all wonderfully inspiring names to have however!"

NAME OF THE DAY: Autumn

Happy Fall!๐Ÿ‚ Today is the start of Fall season aka Autumn, so I will be diving into the name ๐Ÿ“›Autumn ๐Ÿ

The word autumn "comes from the French autompne, from the Latin autumnus, whose deeper roots are obscure. It’s first recorded in English as early as the late 1300s—notably, both Chaucer and Shakespeare used it in their works. Today, speakers of American English commonly use both fall and autumn to refer to the season, though fall became more common in the US by the late 1800s. Speakers of British English largely use autumn or the autumn season," according to Dictionary.com

Autumn as a first name has been, "Given to a handful of girls every year since the 1910s — though US records show it has been used since the 1870s — it began to grow more popular in the 50s and 60s, before entering the mainstream in the 70s. In a recent year, it was given to over 3000 girls in the US," Nameberry says. Autumn was #79 on the Most Popular Baby Names list in 2024.  Nameberry thinks it has, "been popular for many years without ever feeling wildly overused, Autumn can be considered familiar without being too trendy."

Behind the Name's opinion poll on Autumn finds some to believe the name to be "strange" just like Nameberry calls it "unusual." I personally don't find Autumn to be peculiar at all. What I do find weird is supposedly ☀️sunny California is the state where most Autumns live. ๐Ÿค” However in Utah, 22.79 in every 100,000 Utahns are named Autumn. Michigan also has a 98th percentile rank for Autumn.

I have always loved the name ๐Ÿ“›Autumn. I think it's a sophisticated name. It's my favorite season name (followed by Summer, Winter and Spring) to be used for a first name. It's a beautiful name and I feel it's on the road to becoming a classic name even. With it being in the top 100 baby girl names, I don't think that's a stretch — ๐Ÿ“›Autumn is an ageless name that won't be going out of style anytime soon.
