Carolyn: "Oh no Carol Bessette was in Page Six again. Apparently she was seen canoodling with John at..."

Co-worker: "Last time they called you Caroline. It's shoddy journalism."

Carolyn: "I rather they misspell my name the less interested in us they are the better."

The above ⬆ dialogue is from the captivating 📺t.v. show 💞Love 📖Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette — that dramatizes the real life JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's love story — and tragic ending (RIP). 

When Carolyn Bessette (played by Sarah Pidgeon) marries JFK Jr. (played by Paul Anthony Kelly) she becomes sister-in-law to Caroline Kennedy (played by Grace Gummer). The two have tension initially.

What I found fascinating 💭 is they have pretty much the same name. 🤯

But apparently, Carolyn and Caroline are the same name. "Caroline is Carolyn," states, Abby Sandel creator of name website Appellation Mountain.

📛Carolyn and 📛Caroline both mean "free man" and are the feminine versions of the name 📛Charles (that stems from 📛Carolus, the Latin form).

I'm more partial to the name 📛Carolyn because my favorite aunt (RIP) was named it (although she went by 📛Carol). I always equate 📛Caroline with South/North Carolina (my aunt was from the latter) which is how I find it easiest to remember the pronunciation is: 🔊'line.' I see both names as two distinct names... 🤷🏾‍♀️ and I like them both. 📛Carolyn sounds old fashioned yet girlish 🎀 (thanks to the 🔊'lyn' at the end)  — with a sweet 🥰 feel to it — whereas 📛Caroline is a bit more stern and snobby 👃🆙 sounding but has a classy touch to it. 👌🏾

With the 😥 death of distinguished 🎥actress Diane Keaton (RIP. She was one of my favorite actresses 🥰)  — I decided to talk about the name: 📛Diane

Diane is actually the French form of 📛Diana. Diane is of Latin origin and means 'divine.' Nameberry delves into the name, "Diane has been overshadowed by the a-ending version of her name. Diane has a definite mid-century feel; it was a Top 20 name from 1946 to 1959." Diane surprisingly fell off being in the Top 1000 baby names in 2004.  Last year Diane was given as a girl's name to an average of only about 60 baby girls. This is really shocking the number is that low. 🤯

📍North Dakota is the state where the most Dianes live according to My Name Stats. I went to school (in NYC) with a Diane and Diana to my foggy 🧠 memory... both were nice girls I do remember. 📑I just remembered in college I had an internship and one of my boss' name was Diane — she was really wonderful.

📛Harvey is truly one of those old-fashioned names that seems almost outdated today. Harvey is not surprisingly even in the top 100 and at #244 on the most popular names for boys in 2024. "Harvey previously had a respectable run as a Top 100 name in the US in the late nineteenth and early decades of the twentieth century," Nameberry clarifies. Also adding, "the genial, old-timey name that has been much more popular across the pond in the UK. It was a Top 100 choice in England & Wales from 1997 until 2021, though 2022 saw it fall just slightly."

Harvey is of French origin and means 'battle worthy.' Behind the Name's further exploration of the name explains: "From the Breton given name Haerviu, which meant "battle worthy", from haer "battle" and viu "worthy". This was the name of a 6th-century Breton hermit who is the patron saint of the blind. Settlers from Brittany introduced it to England after the Norman Conquest. During the later Middle Ages it became rare."     

Harvey is interesting in that it can be used as a first or surname. Harveys is also the name of a Bristol Cream Sherry. 🍷 Very coolly, there's actually a 🌆City of Harvey, in Illinois. However, the states popular in having Harveys reside in: California and North Dakota.    

I like the name Harvey because my brother 🎉 (and father) has this name! 👍🏾👍🏾 We both had the same middle school science teacher (at different times) who was named Harvey. My brother said the teacher remarked something to the effect of how their names were "once popular." 😕

Will 📛Harvey will make it back into the most popular baby names list in the future? 🤔 It's definitely a classic name that has stood the test of time. I think eventually it will come full circle and do so. 💫
