JD Vance Announces Name Of His Newborn Son

The Vice President of the ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธUnited States of America, JD Vance, recently shared on Instagram the arrival of his fourth child with wife Usha Vance — a son named: ๐Ÿ“›Alec Neel ๐Ÿ’™

The writer of the piece of the historic presidential baby name announcement says: "the choice may feel classic, the name Alec is far less common than it once was," and points out, "Alec’s arrival is also a rare moment in modern U.S. political history. He is the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years. The last vice president to welcome a child while in office was Schuyler Colfax, whose son was born in 1870. Alec joins older siblings Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, and 4-year-old Mirabel."

๐Ÿ“›Nameberry๐Ÿ’'s all-about-the-name ๐Ÿ“›Alec:

I've always loved the name ๐Ÿ“›Alexander ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ or any diminutive of it, so I think ๐Ÿ“›Alec is a great name,  ✔strong (although less serious than its lengthy original name) but ✔chic (a cooler version of the already cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž nickname ๐Ÿ“›Alex).

☔๐Ÿ“›IRN RATING OF ๐Ÿ“›Alec: ๐Ÿ‘ OR ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™/10

๐Ÿ“‘Apparently, there's rumors that baby Alec's name was initially intended to something different yet very familiar to us all... Rob Shuter's Naughty But Nice hears the newborn almost had a very different—and far more political— name. J.D. floated the idea of naming the baby ๐Ÿ“›Donald,” one Washington insider tells Naughty But Nice. He thought it would be the ultimate tribute to President Trump. J.D. knows the President appreciates loyalty, and he believed it would be a meaningful gesture.According to sources, Usha wasn’t buying it. She shut it down—politely, but firmly,” another insider reveals. “Usha wanted their son’s name to reflect their family, not make a political statement. She wasn’t about to turn her newborn into a headline before he could even walk.”

๐Ÿ˜ฌ One ๐Ÿ“›Donald in the White House (actually there are three ๐Ÿคฏ total: Trump, one of Trump's son's name is Donald Jr. and JD Vance's middle name is Donald! ๐Ÿฅด) is enough. ๐Ÿ˜…

As for Alec Vance's middle name: ๐Ÿ“›Neel — it is a Hindi name that means "๐Ÿ’Žsapphire blue." Second Lady Usha Vance is ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณIndian and Neel is a nice name to pay homage to her heritage.

NAME OF THE DAY: Surya

Former figure ⛸ skater Surya Bonaly is back in the news again, being applauded as the first ๐Ÿฅ‡Olympic skater to land a backflip on one blade (aka the "Bonaly flip") in the 1998 Winter Olympics (whilst Ilia Malinin is being praised for performing the same backflips in the 2026 Winter Olympics) — so I will be discussing her first name: ๐Ÿ“›Surya

Surya is surprisingly a masculine name, "occasionally used for boys in 2024๐Ÿ“›Nameberry๐Ÿ’ says, describing it as a "graceful Indian choice that may ๐Ÿ”Šsound feminine to the Western ear but is in fact the name of a male god." Surya means "sun" ☀️ in Sanskrit and is the name of the Vedic Hindu god of the sun who rides a chariot across the sky.

Surya however, "peaked for girls at #4822" in 1994  — interestingly before Bonaly's rise in '98.

Bonaly was born in ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ทFrance, but in ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒAmerica, Surya is popular ("used as a boy's name 74% of the time" though) in ๐Ÿ“Delaware & ๐Ÿ“California.

I like the name ๐Ÿ“›Surya  but when used for a ๐Ÿ’—girl's name more because it does look and sound (I can't stop pronouncing it as: Su-rye-ah ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพ‍♀️) fit for a female.

TV CHARACTER NAME OF INTEREST: Seema

Carrie's new friend on the spin-off SATC show And Just Like That  — is ๐Ÿ“›Seema (played by ๐Ÿ“›Sarita Choudhury). When they first meet, she gives Carrie her business card and Carrie reads her name remarking:

"Seema. That's such a pretty name."

"It means boundary in Hindi which is hilarious because I have none," Seema says.

Of course I had to ๐Ÿ”Ž google the name Seema to make sure that is the correct meaning and it seems... to be.

Behind the Name defines SeemaFrom Sanskrit เคธीเคฎ (sฤซma) meaning "boundary, limit"

I really like Hindi names ๐Ÿ“„ plus that it's an 'S' name that starts with a ๐Ÿ”‰'see' sound  — so I agree with Carrie, ๐Ÿ“›Seema is a pretty name. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ
