NAME OF THE DAY: May

Happy May๐ŸŒธ DayThe May๐ŸŒธ1 holiday is a "celebration with a long and varied history, dating back millennia. Throughout the years, there have been many different events and festivities worldwide, most with the express purpose of welcoming in a change of season (spring in the Northern Hemisphere). In the 19th century, May๐ŸŒธ Day took on a new meaning, as an International Workers’ Day grew out of the 19th-century labor movement for worker’s rights and an eight-hour workday in the United States," History.com states.

Today I will discussing the ๐Ÿ“…month: ๐Ÿ“›May๐ŸŒธ as a first name.

But first: How did May๐ŸŒธ as a month get its name? ๐Ÿค” Dictionary.com dives into it: "May may seem like a short and simple name, but its origin is actually fairly complex and interesting. May refers to the fifth month of the year, with 31 days, marking spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Named after the Roman goddess Maia, its traditional birthstone is the emerald, symbolizing growth and renewal. In English, may also functions as a modal verb, expressing possibility, permission, or a wish."

May๐ŸŒธ is also another name of the hawthorn ๐ŸŒธflower

May๐ŸŒธ is a surname.๐Ÿ“›

May ๐ŸŒธ as a first name, ๐Ÿ“›Nameberry๐Ÿ’ has a lot to say: "May is a sweet old-fashioned name that hasn't been on the national charts in several decades, but is definitely sounding fresh and springlike. Parents are beginning to see it once more as one of the prettiest middle name options. May was as high on the list as Number 57 in the 1880s; it's now 228 on Nameberry. May started as one of the innumerable pet forms of Mary and Margaret, as well as a springtime month name along with April and June." May๐ŸŒธ ranks #963 in US Top 1000. ๐Ÿ“Š

The other May๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ“›Mae (a la West๐ŸŽฅ) is also dubbed, "one of the prettiest and most popular middle name options for girls," by ๐Ÿ“›NB๐Ÿ’. "Mae belongs to spring mornings and handwritten letters. One syllable that somehow contains multitudes. It’s the kind of name that feels like a secret handshake between parents who appreciate understated elegance. Not flashy, just perfect," MSN's Lifestyle Parenting blog believes — calling the alternative to the original May๐ŸŒธ one of '15 short girl names becoming the most popular choices.'

๐Ÿ“☀️California and ๐Ÿ“๐ŸŒบHawaii are the places where the most Mays๐ŸŒธreside.

I like the name ๐Ÿ“›May๐ŸŒธ because it's a ๐Ÿ“…month name and an old fashioned name  but I admit, I like it more for a middle name. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพ‍♀️ It just somehow goes so ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ well with almost any first name. But I'd use the even more ⭐retro ๐Ÿ“›Mae more so for a middle name over using May๐ŸŒธ. I truly was unaware how ๐Ÿ“ˆpopular the name ๐Ÿ“›May๐ŸŒธ (& ๐Ÿ“›Mae) really are until I started researching for this piece on the month name  at least as a middle name. That proves it is not going anywhere anytime soon. As it shouldn't. ๐Ÿ“›May๐ŸŒธ is super simple name yes but it's a really nice, sweet name for a ๐Ÿ’—girl  and a wonderful middle ๐Ÿ“› name choice as well — that just seems to fit ✔ well with seemingly most first names.

NAME OF THE DAY: Emerald

St. ๐Ÿ€Patrick's Day is right around the corner — the infectiously fun, green ๐Ÿ’š themed holiday where on ๐Ÿ“…March 17, "everyone is Irish"๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช  originating obviously in ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชIreland "where St. ๐Ÿ€Patrick’s Day has been a religious feast day since the 17th century and a public holiday since 1903."

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชIreland is nicknamed "The Emerald Isle" because of the country's greenery initially referring to ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ชIreland as such in the celebrated poem ๐Ÿ“ƒ'When Erin First Rose' by William Drennan.

So to get into the spirit of St. Paddy's Day approaching ๐ŸŽ‰ I will talk about the lush name: ๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿ’šEmerald

๐Ÿ’š"Emerald is of Persian origin meaning "green,"" ๐Ÿ“›Nameberry๐Ÿ’ explains. ๐Ÿ’š"Emerald is the intriguing color and jewel name of the deep green stone treasured as far back as ancient Egypt — it's supposed to open one's heart to wisdom and to love and be good for strengthening relationships — which could make for an interesting, unusual name, particularly with the popularity of so many Em-starting names. ๐Ÿ’šEmerald is the birthstone of May, making it extra appropriate for a girl born in that month."

๐Ÿ‘ถBaby ๐Ÿ’™boys have also been named ๐Ÿ’šEmeraldI don't like ๐Ÿ’šEmerald however as a ๐Ÿ’™boy's name unless perhaps it's the middle ๐Ÿ“›name.

๐Ÿ“›NB๐Ÿ’ reports that ๐Ÿ’šEmerald ranks #707 in the US Top 1000.
๐Ÿ“California & ๐Ÿ“District of Columbia are where the most ๐Ÿ’šEmeralds live in the United States.
๐Ÿ“Seattle, Washington is nicknamed 'The Emerald City' for "its abundant parks and greenbelts, which give it a vibrant, lush appearance year-round."

A variant of ๐Ÿ’šEmerald is ๐Ÿ“›Esmeralda (means ๐Ÿ’š"emerald" in Spanish).

I really like the name ๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿ’šEmerald — it's very beautiful (whether chosen for a ๐ŸŒˆcolor or ๐Ÿ’Žjewel name — or to honor one's Irish๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช heritage) and has a certain, sparkling✨ charm to it.
