SPECIAL SPELLING of: Melissa ➡✨Milissa✨

The name 📛Milissa is just the pretty popular (at #378 📈 as of 2024 for baby girls to be named➡) 📛Melissa spelled differently.

Melissa "derives from the Greek word mélissa, meaning 🐝"bee," which was taken from the word for 🍯honey, meli. In Greek mythology, Melissa was a nymph who nursed the infant god Zeus with honey," 📛Nameberry🍒explains. 📛NB🍒 says on Milissa: "The spelling variation with an "i" instead of an "e" emerged as parents sought to personalize traditional names while maintaining their essential sound and meaning. Milissa saw modest popularity in the United States during the 1970s and early 1980s, though it never achieved the widespread usage of its more traditional counterpart. The name carries a gentle, melodic quality with its soft consonants and flowing syllables, making it appealing to parents seeking a name that sounds both familiar and slightly distinctive. The meaning "honeybee" — this sweet connection — gives the name associations with industriousness, community, and natural sweetness."

I only recently came across this "new" (to me🙋🏾‍♀️) spelling of 📛Melissa as 📛Milissa. I like it a little 🤏🏾 more than the original. The 'i' instead of the usual 'e' (✍🏾writing it feels "wrong") gives the normally classic, kinda basic 🥱 name a more modern look 👌🏾 and some pizzazz. 💥

NAME OF THE DAY: Pretty

With a voice as beautiful as hers, no wonder soprano opera singer Pretty Yende's name is actually just that  🎶Pretty!

📛Pretty the name, means the definition of what 'pretty' is of course. In Pretty Yende's case, she  explains in her South African culture, parents give their children names “to follow” to “bring them luck.” [for example: she has a brother named 📛Prosper!] On her name, Pretty says growing up she dreaded her name, “I didn’t feel I was pretty at all." But she came around. Pretty explains her name is "delicatewith “so many subtleties” — suggestive of “wish and will,” sentiments that still guide her.

Behind the Name has Pretty as a variant of the Hindi name 📛Priti. Popular Baby Names has supposed data on the name Pretty: between 1900 and 2022 there were 59 births of Pretty. But I didn't see Africa listed anywhere, which is where Pretty Yende was born. 🤔 There is also a few baby boys listed as being named (stage names mostly it seems) 📛Pretty 🤯 📢I don't like Pretty used for a boy at all! 🙅🏾‍♀️ My Name Stats says 📍California is where the most Pretty named women are and 📍Nevada is next. Nameberry's take on the name Pretty: "For more exciting options with the same meaning, try 📛Jolie📛Marini, or 📛Reiko.❤️ Love Jolie only. Nameberry has a complete list: 📄100+ Pretty Girl Names📛 but ironically a lot of the names on it I do not find pretty. 😬

I love the name 📛Pretty. 😍 It's so matter-of-fact. 🤷🏾‍♀️ And it takes guts to give and wear this very pretty name. I wonder if Pretty Yende often gets the name compliment: "That's a pretty name." 😊

Thanks to Sydney Sweeney — Sydney isn't an old man's nameT anymore

The name bible for name enthusiasts, Nameberry, deems the name 📛Sydney, an "original old👴 man name" (akin to the name 📛Monroe) adopted for girls (from 📛Sidney), that has been having somewhat of a revival.

Thanks to in vogue actress and 👖jean controversy queen: Sydney Sweeney (recently crowned 'The Most Wanted Woman In America'), the name Sydney is definitely not viewed in that light now. "Cool girl actress Sydney Sweeney, of Euphoria and White Lotus, is doing a lot to burnish Sydney's image," Nameberry praises.

The name Sydney is of French origin meaning, "Saint Denis." Behind the Name explains further on Sydney: "From a surname that was a variant of the surname SidneyThis is the name of the largest city in Australia, which was named for Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney in 1788. Formerly used by both genders, since the 1980s this spelling of the name has been mostly feminine."

Sydney is #288 on the Most Popular Baby Names list for girls in 2024. "Sydney's popularity may be down but she's not out," Nameberry assures, where as "Sydney was a hot girls' name in the 1990s." California is where the most girls and women name Sydney reside.

I have a love/"hate" relationship with the name Sydney I admit. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I like the name Sydney because it originates from the name 📛Sidney, which is personal to me — being it is my maternal grandfather's (RIP) first name (literally an "old👴🏾 man's name" 😯). Here is where it gets tricky: my own name (I surprisingly was not named after my maternal grandfather) begins with Sid (so that is what people see/read first) but it is 📢not pronounced "Sid" as is Sidney. Yet everyone assumes it is pronounced like Sidney which is wrong and which has irked me most of my life (until very recently actually as I embraced using the stage name Sid). 😫 An ex once suggested I name our future son Sidney had we had one together, and I didn't want to tell him I was against the name! 🙅🏾‍♀️ Now actually, I would consider the idea 💡...

With Sydney being spelled as is, it can be 'hard' and confusing. 🤔 I immediately think Sidney still and so I start writing it S-i-d usually out of habit. 🤦🏿‍♀️ When I see Sydney I also think of the sweeter 📛Syndee (alternative spelling of the name 📛Cindy). I do however, like how Sydney looks rather if it were spelled as its origin name Sidney (it doesn't bother me if 📛Sidney is used for a girl but on the flipside I do not like when 📛Sydney is used for a boy 😬— the S-y-d gives it a more feminine, plus edgy look. 👌🏾

I've met one Sydney so far — a tattoo artist — and she definitely was a cool girl. 👍🏾👍🏾

Will 📛Sydney  become the epitome of a 😎 "cool girl's name" in the 2020s? Quite possibly. Nameberry swears, "she's arguably still cool." I definitely think it will start to rise further up  on the baby name charts 📈 in popularity with Sydney Sweeney being so sought-after.

All About Alivea

📛Alivea is a name I never saw before recently (due to the sad story of Kaylee Goncalves (RIP) and her surviving sister Alivea Goncalves). Yet I've heard of this name all of my life originally as: 📛Olivia.

When I first saw Alivea I read it as: "Alive" "A" 🤦🏿‍♀️ but since that didn't make sense, I figured it was a misspelling of another 'A' name. 🤔 Then it hit me trying to pronounce it (🗣Alive-a... 🗣A-live-v-a) that ahhh!... Alivea is a variation of Olivia! 🔔

Olivia originates from the Latin word "oliva" meaning "olive." Olivia is the #1 most popular baby name for girls as of 2024. But not only in the United States. Nameberry states, "Olivia ranks among the Top 10 girls' names in several English-speaking countries as well as in Spain, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, and Argentina." "Records of the name Olivia exist from as far back as 13th century England, but the name was popularized after Shakespeare used it for the name of the countess in Twelfth Night."

Olivia is an old-fashioned name that's beautiful: to say (I may or may not have been saying it wrong all this time... pronouncing the 'O'... 🤷🏾‍♀️) and to look it. 🧐 I personally like 'O' names  because they're usually rare, especially for girls to have.

Now 📛Alivea, actually seems to be a variation of another variation 😮‍💨 of Olivia: 📛Alivia. I like Alivia a little more so than Alivea just because I can't unsee the "Alive" in Alivea... 😬 But then I like that Alivea is different and sort of difficult. 🤷🏾‍♀️ It's a name that upon sight, you either get it immediately or you're like me and go, "Huh?... Ohhh!" 😄

📛Alivea is an interesting name variation and with it in the spotlight now, I'm curious 👀 to see if it will gain future popularity ⬆ on the first 📛name charts.📈
