Today is the anniversary of the beloved Marilyn Monroe's death (RIP). Therefore, I will speak on having as a first name, her 🌟 great last name: 📛Monroe 

Monroe (wasn't Marilyn's real last name nor was Marilyn her real first name FYI) is a Scottish surname meaning 'from the mouth of the Roe' — a river in Ireland.

I didn't know this. 🤯 I thought because of Marilyn's popularity it was used mainly as a feminine first name. 🤔

Singer Mariah Carey's twin daughter is named Monroe, after Marilyn Monroe. Carey shares in her memoir she, "wanted both of her kids to share her same initials so was searching for names that started with the letter "M." Monroe's name was ultimately inspired by actress and model Marilyn Monroe." Nameberry believes Carey's, "use of Monroe as a girls’ name did much to revive this Old Man name, a la Sydney, as a newly fashionable choice for girls." However, Monroe was surprisingly way down 🠗 at #571 on the Most Popular Baby names for girls 📉 in 2024. I really thought Monroe would at least be in the top 300. 🤔 The state where the most girls and women named Monroe live, can be found in Texas.   

I love 💗 the name 📛Monroe! Very briefly I had in mind to use Monroe as a middle name if I had a daughter because I'm a bit of a big Marilyn fan. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I love the name Monroe more when used mainly for a girl's name because I just automatically think Marilyn ✔ when I hear Monroe. I can't see Monroe used as a boy's name weirdly but of course it is still cool 😎 when used for a boy. 👌🏾

The legendary Marilyn Monroe's 🎉birthday is today and so I will be covering the much celebrated name: 📛Marilyn.   

When most people think of a Marilyn, they think of iconic actress Marilyn Monroe without question. How could you not? Even after her death (RIP), over sixty years later, she is still considered the standard of beauty 😍 and a sex 🥵 symbol no one will ever replicate. Marilyn Monroe not only had that 'je ne sais quoi' but her name did too. Her stage name was perfection. Norma Monroe even, does not have the same ring to it like, Marilyn Monroe. Monroe's birth name was a bland: 📛Norma Jeane Mortenson (later she was baptized as Norma Jeane Baker).  

The name 📛Marilyn is a combination of Mary and the common name suffix lyn. Marilyn was a rare name before the beginning of the 20th century, Behind the Name says. In 1936, the name Marilyn was the 13th most popular name for girls. Before Marilyn Monroe popularized it, Marilyn Miller (whose real name was Mary Ellen Reynolds) did. Miller was a Broadway star who movie studio executive Ben Lyon said Monroe reminded him of, which is how Monroe got the name Marilyn as her stage name. On the flip side, another well-known actress Kim Novak was born Marilyn Pauline Novak.  

Nameberry reports that Marilyn is the 666th most popular name for baby girls in 2024. My Name Stats states 📍California is the state with the most women named Marilyn, which is fitting as that is where Marilyn Monroe was born. 

I'm a fan of the name 📛Marilyn more so because I'm a fan of Marilyn Monroe I admit. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Although charming, there's certainly nothing fancy about the name Marilyn in itself, today it sounds outdated even. It's actually kind of plain... to be honest. 🤔 But Monroe wore Marilyn and wore it well. The memorable Monroe surname (from Marilyn's mother's family side) definitely helped give oomph! to Marilyn. I think if Marilyn had been named even the terrible name 📛Bertha (sorry Berthas!), I'd like the name Bertha! 😅  

I've met just two Marilyns so far in my life. The first 📛Marilyn was a classmate in middle school, who certainly did not 'look like a Marilyn' as she was petite/nerdy. The second 📛Marilyn I met was a customer (an older woman) at a bookstore I worked at. When she gave me her name to either use her membership card or get one, I saw the name Marilyn and remarked she had a nice name and how I love Marilyn Monroe. She was flattered, thanked me and remarked something how Marilyn wasn't as common as it used to be. I believe I agreed with her.

The vintage name Marilyn will continue to live on for a long time to come, simply because of the "Marilyn Monroe Effect" 💋 — and that's a good thing!

CELEBRITY BABY NAME PREDICTION: Megan Fox...

Actress Megan Fox welcomed a daughter this March with musician mgk and the name of their baby has yet to be revealed to the public.   

Mgk made the birth announcement on Instagram in which he called his youngest daughter, "Celestial Seed" but he didn't mean that was her real name! He later clarified the name would be revealed by Megan Fox in due time.    

I for one love weird, wacky, one-of-a-kind names so if they really had named their daughter Celestial Seed I wouldn't have batted an eye (okay, maybe at the Seed part). I actually really like Celestial as a first name. It's like the edgier version of Celeste. 

I'm impatiently waiting to know what Megan Fox named her daughter. One of her sons has an unusual name (📛 Journey) and another a really rebellious middle name (📛Ransom) — so perhaps she followed suit and named her girl a really unique name. But maybe she went the complete opposite route and named her baby girl something "normal" or common (another son of hers is named 📛Noah, the #2 name for baby boys to be named in 2024). However, I highly doubt that.

No, Marilyn is not a rare name in any sense. In past interviews it is said Fox has admired Marilyn Monroe. What better name for one of the most popular actresses of the 2000s to name her daughter, but the name of the most famous actress of all time? Marilyn is a charming, old-fashioned name that is forever linked to Monroe. But if Fox named her girl Marilyn (they would both have 'M' names which would be cute), the name would be linked to her for this generation. And I think that would be a pretty cool way to pay homage to such an icon. 😎
