The one-of-a-kind name 📛Unique made it onto Nameberry's 📃Top Baby Names of 2025 — taking the ninth spot (out of the Top 10 Girl Names) — and making it on the exclusive list for the very first time.
"Unique has nevertheless seen noteworthy use in the US. Unique is also a familiar choice in Malawi and Nigeria (where names such as Blessing, Memory, and Innocent are familiar choices, and Unique fits in). It featured in the Top 1000 a number of times during the 90s and then again in the late 2000s. While it has been out of the charts for a decade now, Unique was still given to around 100 girls and 30 boys in a recent year," Nameberry shares. The most Uniques live surprisingly in 📍New Jersey.
Blunt commentary on Unique: "Finding a really distinctive name is probably a better way to make sure your child stands out, but then again, is choosing Unique really any different to parents choosing Saint, Messiah, Chosen, Dream, Miracle, or Blessing? While those who dislike Unique may very well dislike Chosen and Dream equally too," Nameberry says.

I like the name 📛Unique (it's great for a girl 💗 but I like it for a boy 💙 a bit more). 👌🏾 I think it's a 😎 cool, clever 🤓 and bold name choice but I don't see it was as a true unique name per se since it's the word unique. Yet Unique is a unique name because I've never met a Unique (a 📛Yanique however, in high school). I personally wouldn't have minded if I had been named Unique 🤷🏾♀️ but I wouldn't choose to name a child it at the same time. 🤔
I doubt 📛Unique will ever make it the most 📈Popular Baby Names list as number 100 or ⬇below. I think if there's any name that shouldn't rise 📉 in popularity, it's 📛Unique — or else it wouldn't be unique! 😖
