Freddy, Jason & Michael: Horror Inspired Names

Happy Halloween! ๐ŸŽƒ Halloween is synonymous with Horror — so I will be talking about the top three horror movie character's names!
For non-horror fans, the names Freddy, Jason and Michael may seem like everyday names for a boy or man. But ๐Ÿ“›Freddy (born Frederick) Krueger, ๐Ÿ“›Jason Voorhees and ๐Ÿ“›Michael Myers are significant names being the 'Big 3' in the world of ๐Ÿ”ช๐Ÿฉธhorror movies. ๐ŸŽฅ The names Freddy, Jason and Michael are all unsuspecting and pretty normal enough in the real world, yet their bearers signify evil incarnate in Horror. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Interestingly, the meaning of each iconic horror name is... good. ๐Ÿ“›Freddy means "peaceful ruler", ๐Ÿ“›Jason means "to heal" and ๐Ÿ“›Michael means "who is like God?" Michael is the most popular of the three, ranking at #18 on the Most Popular Baby Names of 2024. Jason is second, coming in at #148. Freddy is the least popular name, at least in the U.S. In England, Freddy is the #319th most popular name.
I wonder if there are any baby boys specifically named after any of the horror villains ๐Ÿค” or better yet, if there's any sibling set, brothers (triplets) named after each horror character. ๐Ÿ˜จ That would be something else (and pretty cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž I admit) having sons ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿป named: Freddy, Jason and Michael. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ
    I like the names ๐Ÿ“›Freddy ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ and ๐Ÿ“›Jason ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ most — not a big fan of ๐Ÿ“›Michael ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพ‍♀️ but I do like Michael Myers a lot. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ

The happiest name on Earth? Disney

Influencer couple Josh and Aubree Jones seem to think naming their newborn daughter ๐Ÿ“›Disney is smile worthy, happy news.

However, the internet seems to have negative things to say about the harmless name Disney.

The couple have heard it all: "People telling them it “should be illegal,” that they had infringed on a trademark, that their kid would be bullied in schoolEven their own parents “weren’t too excited about it,” says Aubree. Josh’s mom laughed when they revealed the name to her, and Aubree’s mom told them she preferred Daisy." ๐ŸŒผ

Why did they go with the name Disney? The pair says the name has a deep resonance for their family: Aubree grew up in California and Josh was raised in Florida, so they each were in proximity to Disney theme parks throughout their childhood and have only magical memories attached to them. Disney movies probably raised us almost as much as our parents did. But the main thing, though, when we were looking at it as a name was what it represents and the person — Walt Disney — what he created and how he impacted our lives and the world. The name that she has right now is perfect for her. It matches her energy. It matches her sweetness. She looks like a Disney,” Josh says of their daughter.

I like the name ๐Ÿ“›Disney  it's cute ๐Ÿญ and a fun ๐ŸŽ‰ name. Now if the Jones' had named their daughter Walt, then I would have to scratch my head and say, wtf?! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

A Daughter Named Dexter

The late Diane Keaton had an adopted daughter named ๐Ÿ“›Dexter! ๐Ÿคฏ I would kill to hear the story behind naming a little girl that name... ๐Ÿค”

The name Dexter is largely associated with the tv villain/hero serial killer ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Dexter Morgan of the show Dexter. But on the other end of the spectrum, Dexter is also synonymous with being a nerdy name because of the slang term: poindexter. ๐Ÿค“

Dexter is a boy's name as well as an "occupational surname meaning 'one who dyes' in Old English. It also coincides with the Latin word dexter meaning 'right-handed, skilled.' " More on Dexter being a last name, "meaning 'dyer' (originally this was a feminine word, but it was later applied to men as well)."

I never met a Dexter but I knew of one: an old friend's nephew's name was Dexter. I was pretty wowed ๐Ÿ˜ฎ when she told me and commented the name was "interesting" or "cool."

I don't have a problem with giving ๐Ÿ“›Dexter as a boy's name (mainly because I like the show Dexter ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพ‍♀️) but I definitely don't like ๐Ÿ“›Dexter for a girl's name. Okay, one point for originality ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ but it's just way too masculine. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ ๐Ÿ“›Dex as a nickname, now that is kinda cute... but it's still a boy's name. ๐Ÿ˜–

NAME OF THE DAY: Diane

With the death of distinguished actress Diane Keaton (RIP), I decided to talk about the name: ๐Ÿ“›Diane

Diane is actually the French form of ๐Ÿ“›Diana. Diane is of Latin origin and means 'divine.' Nameberry delves into the name, "Diane has been overshadowed by the a-ending version of her name. Diane has a definite mid-century feel; it was a Top 20 name from 1946 to 1959." Diane surprisingly fell off being in the Top 1000 baby names in 2004.  Last year Diane was given as a girl's name to an average of only about 60 baby girls. This is really shocking the number is that low. ๐Ÿคฏ

๐Ÿ“North Dakota is the state where the most Dianes live according to My Name Stats. I went to school (in NYC) with a Diane and Diana to my foggy ๐Ÿง  memory... both were nice girls I do remember. ๐Ÿ“‘I just remembered in college I had an internship and one of my boss' name was Diane — she was really wonderful.

Variants of Diane include: ๐Ÿ“›Diann ๐Ÿ“›Dianne ๐Ÿ“›Dyan ๐Ÿ“›Diahann

I like the different versions of Diane and how edgy they look but the spelling gets a bit confusing. ๐Ÿค” The original is best. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ Simply put ๐Ÿ“›Diane is a classic name. Even though it has ๐Ÿ“ˆfallen dramatically on the baby name charts in popularity, Diane still has potential to rise ๐Ÿ“‰ at a future point in time — and hopefully it will.

MIDDLE MYSTERY: Is Elizabeth Taylor Swift's middle name?

๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ“›"๐Ÿ“›Alison is singer Taylor Swift's middle name."

I assumed with Swift's song titled: ๐ŸŽผElizabeth Taylor off her newest album – that it paid homage to the iconic actress ๐Ÿ“›Elizabeth – because that is Swift's middle name. Not the case. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพ‍♀️ But how perfectly fitting (and cute) would it be if Elizabeth was Taylor's middle name.

TV CHARACTER NAME OF INTEREST: Pandora

"Have you ever entertained in front of a view like this?"

"Have you?"

"Sometimes I come out here and entertain myself."

"That's very naughty of you Pandora."

"Pandora's my colleague. I stole you from her. My name's Cherry."

⬆ Flirty conversation in the tv miniseries The Girlfriend, between characters ๐Ÿ’Cherry (played by Olivia Cooke) who poses as her co-worker ๐ŸŽPandora (played by Marina Bye) and a property client. With how provocative ๐Ÿ’Cherry's character is, her name should be ๐ŸŽPandora instead! ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพ‍♀️

๐Ÿ“›๐ŸŽPandora is a very controversial name to name a woman.๐ŸŽPandora means: "all gifts", derived from a combination of Greek ฯ€แพถฮฝ (pan) meaning "all" and ฮดแฟถฯฮฟฮฝ (doron) meaning "gift". In Greek mythology Pandora was the first mortal woman. Zeus gave her a jar containing all of the troubles and ills that mankind now knows, and told her not to open it. Unfortunately her curiosity got the best of her and she opened it, unleashing the evil spirits into the world.๐ŸŽPandora's alternate name is: ๐Ÿ“›Anesidora meaning, "she who sends up gifts."

Nameberry says on ๐ŸŽPandora being used in modern times for baby girls: "๐ŸŽPandora is riding the wave of mythological names used for babies after centuries of being confined to legend." 34 baby girls were named ๐ŸŽPandora last year.

I'm surprised ๐Ÿ˜ฎ there's even women today named ๐ŸŽPandora with the not-so-great mythology behind her name. I genuinely wonder ๐Ÿค” how parents made the bold decision to name their daughter after a woman who brought evil into the world, according to Greek mythology... ๐Ÿ˜–

Now beyond the history of ๐ŸŽPandora's name, it's a really nice name I admit. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพ‍♀️ ๐Ÿ“›๐ŸŽPandora is a name like the Bible's ๐Ÿ“›Eve ๐Ÿ“›Delilah or ๐Ÿ“›Jezebel  pretty but problematic because of the unladylike history behind the names unfortunately.

I personally wouldn't want to have the name ๐ŸŽPandora or would I ever think of naming a daughter it   but I can see why some parents would give their daughter such a debatable name – perhaps in hopes their daughter is different, better than the whispers behind the name... I would hope.

NAME OF THE DAY: October

๐ŸŽ‰Happy October! Today is the beginning of the month (my favorite month ๐ŸŽƒ) and therefore I will talk about the name ๐Ÿ“›October ๐Ÿงก

October: "is the tenth month by our Gregorian calendar and is from the Latin octo and Greek okto, meaning “eight.” October was the eighth month of the year rather than the tenth as it is today. The Roman calendar was only ten months long and included the following months: Martius, Aprilis, Maius, Junius, Quintilis, Sextilis, September, October, November, and December. As you can see, January and February hadn’t been added to the calendar yet! Like its neighboring months September, November, and December, the month of October kept its numerical name, even after Julius Caesar expanded the calendar year from 10 months to 12. The use of October increased after the Norman invasion of 1066, eventually replacing the Old English vernacular term Winterfylleรฐ (“Winter full moon”)," Dictionary.com explains

On October being used as a first name, Nameberry asks, "What is so rare as a month named June? October – and November and December – are a lot rarer. Brisk and substantial, they're so much more memorable and modern than April or May."

October is not unanimously seen as a unisex name but both baby boys and girls use it. Although, My Name Stats claims according to SSA data, usually October is used as a girl's name 100% of the time. The most Octobers can be found fittingly in ๐Ÿ“Massachusetts, followed by Rhode Island. October also is a surname. ๐Ÿ“›

October is one of my favorite first names ๐Ÿ˜   as in ๐Ÿ†"Top 10 Favorite Names"๐Ÿ“›๐Ÿ“ƒI love it so much! ๐Ÿฅฐ It's a name I definitely wish ✨ I had if I could have been born with a name other than my own. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I actually knew an October in my college years and I was beyond in awe ๐Ÿ˜ฎ at her name, envious too. ๐Ÿ˜Š I remembering going up to her after or before class one day and inquiring about her unique name. ๐Ÿง When she said her grandmother was named October too I was really wowed! ๐Ÿคฏ

๐Ÿ“›October is an outstanding ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ really rare first name (I prefer it more so for a girl๐Ÿ’—). I doubt October will ever be a popular name month ๐Ÿ™ but that's part of the appeal — and that makes it even more mysterious and cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž (when given to a ๐Ÿ’™boy) to have as one's name. ๐Ÿ˜
