A blog all about... names! I've been a "collector" of & obsessed with other people's first names (esp. unique, unusual & uncommon) forever. Read this space for fascinating, fervent, fun (for fellow name nerds): news, facts, commentary & anecdotes on names - the good, bad, ugly & pretty. This is IRN (est. in 2010s via Freewebs) REDUX!

🤗Merry 🎄Christmas❗
Today I will talk about the very cheerful 😃 name that belonged to the very cute, klutzy and loveable 🥰 "Chrissy" of the sitcom 3️⃣Three's Company. 📺 The full name of Chrissy (played by the late Suzanne Somers RIP) was actually: 📛🎄Christmas Noelle Snow.❄ How incredibly delightful and special is that name?!? 😊 I've been a fan of the show since I was small and just found out years ago that 📛Chrissy = 🎄Christmas. 🤯
🎄Christmas as a first name is "from the name of the holiday, which means ✝ Christ festival."
Nameberry explains 🎄Christmas is a name of English origin — "a day name long and quietly used as a name for babies born at Christmas. Prettier and more modern than Noel or Noelle."
🎄Christmas is a super rare name with just under 145 babies given the joyful name according to SSA data. 📍California and 📍Hawaii are where 🎄Christmas lovers have named their children the happy, holiday name.
I love the idea of giving 📛🎄Christmas as a name. It's definitely a holiday name that would make one do a 👀double take upon seeing (a la 📛Easter 🐇). 🎄Christmas as a name is celebratory 🙌 with great spiritual significance. 🎄Christmas is first and foremost a girl's 💗 name interestingly. 🤔 But I equally like using 🎄Christmas for a boy 💙 too — with 📛Chris as the perfect nickname. 👌🏾
📌The long-standing (est. 2006) name blog: Nancy's 👶 Baby Names 📛 has an intriguing article asking: 💭How many humans have been named Christmas throughout history?

Today is🎄Christmas Eve! And so I will be talking about the very 😃 happy name: 📛Merry❗
The meaning of merry: "full of cheerfulness or gaiety; joyous in disposition or spirit." 📛Merry is ultimately from Old English myrige.
Behind the Name says Merry is a diminutive of 📛Mercy: "from Latin merces "wages, reward", a derivative of merx "goods, wares.""
Nameberry describes Merry as: "lighthearted, happy. She'd better be." 😅 And insists Merry is a classic name for Christmas babies. 🎄👶💗 Merry was at a 📈 peak in 1969 at #949 on the US Top 1000 baby 📛names list 📃 and surprisingly hasn't risen anymore.
The most Merrys happily (hopefully❗) live in 📍California and 📍South Dakota.
I really like 📛Merry. 🤗 It's a really pretty name. It's kind of simple (a la the timeless 📛Mary, the two 🔊sound so similar) but Merry has more pizzazz 💥 with its bright 🌟 meaning. 😀

📛🎉Jubilee is a fun, word name that means many things:
🎉Jubilee recently ranked #103 on Nameberry's Top Unique Names list (📝: "the top unique names are those that rank right below the official list of the US Top 1000 Baby Names. Most of these top unique names, ranked 1001 to 2000 on the US list, are given to between 100 and 200 babies a year. That means they strike a good balance between too popular and too unusual"). I'm surprised 🎉Jubilee is not further along on the name charts. 📊🤔 Names.org says: "📛🎉Jubilee was first given to 5 or more babies in the year 1975 when it was given as a first name to 9 new born babies. The highest recorded use of the first name Jubilee was in 2015 with a total of 229 babies."
The places where the most 🎉Jubilees live are not the party cities one would think (New Orleans or Las Vegas) but 📍California and 📍District of Columbia.
"While relatively uncommon as a personal name, 📛🎉Jubilee has maintained its appeal among parents seeking names that convey happiness and significance, particularly in communities with strong biblical or historical connections," Names.org suggests. While Nameberry thinks 🎉Jubilee has a "joyous and jubilant aura, but it wouldn't be an easy name to carry, what with all that pressure to be a living, breathing, 24-7 party." 🥳
I love the name 📛🎉Jubilee! It's a too cute 🥰 name that has great and significant meanings behind it — plus a joyous, positive vibe surrounding it. 🌟

📛🎉Jubilant is an unexpected, exciting 🤗 word name meaning: "feeling or showing great joy, satisfaction, or triumph; rejoicing; exultant." Jubilant was first recorded in 1660–70; from Latin jūbilant-, stem of jūbilāns “shouting,” present participle of jūbilāre “to shout, whoop.”
Names.org says on 🎉Jubilant: "This emotionally evocative name embodies concepts of triumph, celebration, and exuberant happiness, making it part of a broader category of virtue or characteristic names that gained popularity during various naming movements throughout history. While not traditionally found as a given name in classical nomenclature, Jubilant represents a modern English adoption of Latin vocabulary as personal nomenclature, similar to names like Felicity or Joy."
🎉Jubilant is categorized as a gender neutral name by Names.org but 🎉Jubilant is labeled strictly a girl name by experts at Baby Name Meaningz. 🤔 I see 🎉Jubilant more as a masculine name for 👶🏾 baby boys. 💙

Today is the first day of Winter ❄ so I will talk about the chill(y) name 📛Winter — which belongs to Winter Santiaga - the winsome, tough and slick main character of the classic urban novel 📘The Coldest Winter Ever by Lisa "Sister Souljah" Williamson.
Winter candidly shares how she was got her name at the very start:

"Winter entered the U.S. Top 1000 in 1978, it was been used as a first name as early as the seventeenth century," Nameberry traces.
"Fresher, brisker and, yes, cooler than Summer or Autumn or Spring, Winter is now a full-fledged female choice," Nameberry praises.
Winter is the preferred spelling over variant 📛Wynter: "less month, more trendy, more times needing to spell it to people." Nameberry says Winter has risen in popularity significantly over the past few years and is #385 on the Most Popular Baby Names of 2024 list for girls. Winter is #38 on baby name 📃list: 1,081 Feminine Boy Names. Winter also is a surname.📛
📍Montana 🥶 is where most Winters live.
I love the truly 😎 cool (or rather cold 🥶) name 📛Winter (although it's my third favorite of the season names: 📛Autumn, 📛Summer, 📛Winter & lastly, 📛Spring). I also love the alternative spelling of it: 📛Wynter. I prefer Winter more for a girl but as a boy name works well too (I would spell is however: Wenter). 👍🏾👍🏾

📰HuffPost has posted the baby names name experts believe will be chosen by parents the most in 2026. 🎉 These names are likely to be chosen next year based on recent trends and Social Security Administration data.
HuffPost asked: 🤔"Which names can we expect to see more parents choosing in the future?"
The 👶baby 📛name 🤓experts answered. Read below ⬇ for their predictions and reasonings behind their picks:
📛Sienna
“Sienna taps into the natural cottagecore vibes parents are loving right now, and it has that classic ‘a’ ending of all the most popular girl names ― Olivia, Emma, Sophia,” said Rebekah Wahlberg, a baby name trends specialist at BabyCenter. She added that the name appeals to “that early-aughts nostalgia” many parents are feeling these days. “Remember Sienna Miller?” Wahlberg asked.
📛Cosmo
“I think 2026 will finally be Cosmo’s year,” said Sophie Kihm, the editor-in-chief of Nameberry. “It was a surprising choice when Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost used it for their son in 2021, but America is warming up to this decidedly geek-chic boy name. “Parents who love quirky old man names à la Theo, Felix and Otto will soon turn their attention to Cosmo,” Kihm said. “The ‘oz’ sound is trending right now ― Ozias was one of the fastest-rising names of 2025, Ozzy remains a very stylish nickname.
📛Romy
“Romy is short, sweet and impossibly sweet,” said baby name consultant Taylor Humphrey, who described it as a “breakout ‘cool girl’ contender.” She noted that it’s a portmanteau of Rose and Marie, and can make a great nickname or honorary name for Rosemary. “Romy is one of these names, like Kit, that is appealing to parents across the spectrum,” Slagen said. “I don’t think you can put Romy in a box stylistically. It feels like a nickname, yet complete. It feels old fashioned, yet modern. It feels feminine, but not frilly.”
📛Callum
“Callum was one of the fastest-rising (and most-viewed) names on Nameberry in 2025, which is a great predictor of a name’s growth in the real world,” Kihm said. “Gentle-yet-masculine boy names with soft sounds are highly covetable right now, and Callum’s peaceful meaning, ‘dove,’ adds to its tranquil image.” “Callum was one of the fastest-rising (and most-viewed) names on Nameberry in 2025, which is a great predictor of a name’s growth in the real world,” Kihm said. “Gentle-yet-masculine boy names with soft sounds are highly covetable right now, and Callum’s peaceful meaning, ‘dove,’ adds to its tranquil image.”
📛Colette
This name is also a solid “compromise” choice, she added. “We often see parents use it when one is drawn to gentler boy names and the other prefers more rugged, traditionally masculine boy names ― which you get from the cowboy-cool nickname Cal,” Kihm said. “Many parents are wanting something with Charlotte’s vibe, but less common,” Slagen said. “Colette is beautiful, timeless and just as nickname-able with Coco and Lettie.”
📛Benson
“Benson is a great illustration of how name trends propagate,” said Sherri Suzanne, a baby name consultant and the founder of My Name for Life. “Ben and long-form Benjamin are centuries-old choices, with Benjamin hitting the Top 10 in the U.S. for the first time in 2015.” This popularity spawned interest in other “Ben” names like the surname-name Bennett. “Benson is an-up-and-coming variation,” Suzanne said. “It is easy to say and spell while still yielding favorite ‘Ben.’ It has some pop culture connections, from the ‘Law & Order’ franchise to singer Benson Boone. But mostly Benson is a logical extension of our love of ‘Ben.’”
📛Oaklynn
Wahlberg believes Oaklynn is another name set to rise in popularity in 2026. “Girl names with ‘lynn’ and ‘line’ have been beloved by parents for hundreds of years ― and Oaklynn is a fresh take on this timeless formula,” she said. “It’s been steadily rising for the past decade and finally broke into BabyCenter’s top 100 girl names this year.”
📛Macklin
“Compared to most pro sports, ice hockey seldom popularizes a name in the United States,” said Abby Sandel, the creator of the baby name blog Appellation Mountain. “But Canadian-born newcomer Macklin Celebrini might be the exception. His name offers parents an appealing longer name option for upbeat, casual Mack.” She compared Mack and Macklin to Jack and Jackson.
📛Fia
“The current U.S. top 10 includes Sophia and Mia,” Sandel said. “Over in Ireland? Fiadh, pronounced like Fia, tops the popularity charts.” She noted that the word translates to “deer” and has the meaning of “wild” or “untamed” as a name. “All those parents shortlisting Liam and Maeve are sure to be drawn to this outdoorsy, adventurous, mini-name import, too,” Sandel added.
📛Arthur
Wahlberg pointed to the appeal of classic names like Arthur. “Arthur fits right in with other strong, regal boy names that parents are gravitating toward these days, like James and Henry,” she said. “It had a long run in the top 100 boy names in the early 1900s and is only recently making a comeback, so Arthur has some vintage appeal, too.”
📛Yuna
“Multicultural mini names ― or as we like to call them ‘traveling lite names’ ― are one of the most marked trends of 21st century baby naming,” Kihm said. “Parents are prioritizing short names that are easily understood in a variety of languages, and Yuna is poised to be the n ext big hit.” She noted that this name has roots in multiple languages, including Chinese, Japanese and Dutch. It also shares sounds with trendy names like Luna and Juna.
📛Evren
Suzanne believes Evren is a particularly interesting choice that’s ripe for a rise up the popularity charts. “I have offered Evren on occasion to parents who wanted a very uncommon name that fit easily into contemporary naming,” she explained. “After many years of quiet use, I see signs Evren is on parents’ radar.” The name has Turkish roots and means “the universe.” “It is a gender-neutral name that is most often seen for boys,” Suzanne said. “However, the initial Ev- syllable calls to parents of girls as well. Evren is an easy name with western sounds and eastern mystique. A similar name Evron is related to the Biblical male name Ephraim.”
📛Colter
Jennifer Moss, founder of BabyNames.com, predicts the name Colter is set to continue its rise up the popularity charts in 2026. “Colter is probably being influenced by the popular television series ‘Tracker,’ whose main character is Colter Shaw,” she said.
📛Rumi
“The runaway success of ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ has this Ruby-meets-Remi name on everybody’s watch list,” Sandel said. Since Beyonce and Jay-Z picked this name for their second daughter in 2017, Rumi has been steadily gaining in use. “In fact, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ co-director Maggie Kang named the film’s animated heroine after her young daughter,” Sandel said. “It’s an on-trend choice with a bright, global presence.”
📛Conrad
“Conrad was privy to the perfect storm ― on trend and a pop culture boost,” Slagen said. Indeed, the popularity of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and the character Conrad has put this name on the map in recent years. “It’s classic-sounding with a little edge,” Slagen noted. “I love the idea of Conrad and Archie as a brother duo. I guess Jeremiah works, too.”
📛Jordan/📛Jordy
“If ’90s track pants can make a comeback, why not ’90s names?” Slagen asked. “I see parents, especially boy parents, reaching for names that feel not too traditional but not too new age.” “If ’90s track pants can make a comeback, why not ’90s names?” Slagen asked. “I see parents, especially boy parents, reaching for names that feel not too traditional but not too new age.”
My two
cents: I'm disappointed. 😞 I'm not feeling crazy about most of these names 🥱outside of 📛Cosmo and 📛Oaklynn. 🤷🏾♀️ 📛Fia and 📛Evren are new to me 😀 plus interesting. And I have always like the names 📛Sienna and 📛Jordan. 👌🏾
